Toronto was home to Hip Hop this past Monday as Heavyweights Common and Q-Tip rocked the Koolhaus (Toronto) for the XBox 360 NBA 2K8 tour! Q-Tip is due for an album. There were rumblings about his release a couple of years back, but now I can finally say that it's coming to fruition! It's already moving with the release of his first single 'Work It Out', and already getting spins. As for Common, do I really need to edumacate y'all? Hitting the number one spot with Finding Forever, Common couldn't be more "In Demand". Q-Tip was still crazy though. His stage show definitely bridged the gap between the old Q-Tip (Tribe) and the New Tip. As for Common's show, just doing tracks from Be alone would've killed it but he busted out with the new bangers from his latest album Finding Forever (in stores now) and brought the house down. Come on, he always represents when he's down here. If you haven't seen him live, do it up as soon as possible!

His single "Crank That" has been destroying all competition @ radio across the US and all over clubs in Canada. Not to mention, it just happens to be the hottest dance since Dutty Wine, Running man, you name it. In just 2 weeks, this 17 year old came in at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 taking out cats like Kanye West! So, long story short, get on it. Request "Crank That" at your local radio station and club. Spread the word, this is your red alert.

VP Records keeps coming stronger with each release. Assassin is ready to put the charts on smash this September with the drop of his second album Gully Sit'n. You may know Assassin from his early days as a deejay/songwriter, or the track he wrote for Spragga Benz. More recently Assassin has released a number of hits on the most popular riddims alongside veteran artists Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Spragga Benz, and Penthouse Label mate Buju Banton. Much like Buju Banton, Assassin's major start also happened at the ripe age of 17. Now at 22 he's one of the youngest riddim riders in the game. His pre-album/pre-record deal singles boast number one status and more than a few top five slots on the reggae charts globally. Plus, he's part of the Penthouse Records roster, the label that manages the careers of Buju Banton, Wayne Wonder, and Tony Rebel. Assassin's definitely competing for the favor of his contemporaries, most of whom are about ten years his senior. So far Assassin has released enough songs to complete two albums. Make sure you willy bounce on down to your local retailer and pick up that fire Gully Sit'n on Tuesday September 25.
